You should be more accurate when talking about Arnolfo di Cambio. He indeed planned the dome above the choir, but smaller (its diameter would roughly correspond to the width of the nave). It was Francesco Talenti a few decades later who expanded the choir, planning the dome with the diameter as we see it today, that corresponds to the width of the nave and the aisles. While Brunelleschi's dome is certainly the highlight, why nobody is talking about the vaults over the nave of this very same church, which are among the highest of any of the gothic churches (I think that only at Beauvais, Amiens and Köln they are built higher), yet with no support of the flying buttresses that we are used to see at the French cathedrals?

I reckon, spain was a 'dream come true' land for the islamic conquerors and invaders that time; where they had all the chances to execute architecture that they cant do in their arid lands. incorporating nature and structures in fruition. I still see the european inspiration in some of it, and calligraphy is a general term not an arab one. also latticeworks has been present in earlier times prior invasion. it was observed in asian ,indian and tudor architectures. the water elements inside the palaces has long been introduced during the roman times. overall i think its a fusion of mostly multi-european architecture with some islamic touches to some up.

His REAL secret is to make his domes NOT as Hemispheres but give them an EGG like shape with a CATENARY curve, rather than a semi-circular one. a "Rotated" catenary arch. This way the curve stress is concentrated DOWNWARDS and not OUTwards as with a circular arch/dome.
